Daylong hartal in Cox’s Bazar Sunday
Main opposition BNP called dawn-to-dusk hartal for Sunday in the district.
District BNP unit made the hartal announcement on Thursday night following death of Chakaria Jubo Dal organizing secretary Abdul Halim, who died in hospital after release from police custody.’
Claiming Halim death due to police torture, office secretary of district BNP Yusuf Badri told banglanews that police arrested Halim on Tuesday during blockade programme and sent him to court after torture.
He fell ill after getting bail on Wednesday and was rushed to Malumghat Christian Hospital where he died on Thursday night.
Rejecting the allegation of torturing Halim, Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Thana Ranajit Kumar Barua told banglanews, “Why police will torture him? He died in hospital as he was sick.”
