72-hr blockade underway 1 killed in Jhenaidah; vandalism

The countrywide 72-hour non-stop blockade, called again by opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway from 6:00am Saturday to press demand for caretaker government.
The waterways, roads and railways will remain under the blockade programmes from 6.00am Saturday to 6.00am Tuesday. An activist of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a clash between blockade supporters and police in Kotchandpur upazila of the district on Saturday, the first day of 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance. Blockade supporters set fire to four paddy-laden trucks and a medicine carrying microbus in Dewanpara area of the divisional city early Saturday, hours before the 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance. A police constable sustain splinter injuries as blockaders hurled cocktails at a police van in front of Old Chandgaon Thana in the port city at 9:00am Saturday. Police chased the blockaders and held two of them and took them to custody. Earlier, 18-party alliance ended observing 71-hour rail-road-waterway blockade programme at 5:00am Friday amid countrywide incidents of violence. At least 18 people were killed, hundreds others injured, dozens burnt across the country during the blockade. Hundreds of cocktails were exploded by 18-party activists and many vehicles were vandalized and torched at the same time.
