DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed on Sunday categorically said that Election Commission (EC) would not extend the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the upcoming 10th national election.
The chief election commissioner came up with the assertion while talking to journalists at EC secretariat in the afternoon.
He said, “Monday is the deadline for summiting the nomination papers and it is possible to submit nomination papers after tomorrow.”
Earlier in the day, in a statement, BNP acting general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the EC to postpone the polls schedule and arrange a fruitful election with the participation of all parties.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad also had earlier called for extending the time by at least 10 days.
Earlier, EC declared that the 10th general election will be held on January 5.
