MP, UNO, OC injures in Jessore blockade violence

At least 20 people, including Jessore-5 constituency lawmaker Khan Tipu Sulatan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Officer-in-Charge, were injured in an attack of pickets during nationwide blockade on Saturday.

The incident took place near Chalkidanga area of the Monirampur Upazila of the district around 4.15pm.

Witness said the activist of opposition BNP and Jamaat attack on Khan Tipu Sulatan MP’s car while he was going to Monirampur from Jessore during the pickets blocked Monirampur-Jessore highway using wood logs that left Tipu, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Nasiruddin, UNO Sharif Nazrul Islam and 17 others.

Later, police rescued them and brought the situation by deploying additional police force and sweeping blockades from the road.

UNO Sharif Nazrul Islam was injured critically by brick stone hit and rushed to nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the others injured were also given treatments in hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Monirampur Thana Mir Rezaul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said, “Police couldn’t manage to arrest anyone related with the incident.”
