Jubo Dal activist killed in Ishwardi

A Jubo Dal activist was killed and at least 10 others injured as a rashly driven truck rammed them during blockade hour Chand Alir Mor area of Chholimpur union under Ishwardi upazila of the district on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Mahabul Hossain, 40, son of Choimuddin, hailed from Mirkamari village of Chholimpur union in the upazila. Witnesses said Chholimpur Union BNP and Jubo Dal activists brought out a procession in support of the blockade around 6:30pm. At one stage, the truck driver lost control over the steering and rammed the blockaders, leaving one person dead on the spot and ten others injured, witnesses added. Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Thana Biman Kumar Das told banglanews that they sent the body to the morgue for an autopsy. He added that the truck driver and helper fled the scene.

MP, UNO, OC injures in Jessore blockade violence

At least 20 people, including Jessore-5 constituency lawmaker Khan Tipu Sulatan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Officer-in-Charge, were injured in an attack of pickets during nationwide blockade on Saturday.

The incident took place near Chalkidanga area of the Monirampur Upazila of the district around 4.15pm.

Witness said the activist of opposition BNP and Jamaat attack on Khan Tipu Sulatan MP’s car while he was going to Monirampur from Jessore during the pickets blocked Monirampur-Jessore highway using wood logs that left Tipu, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Nasiruddin, UNO Sharif Nazrul Islam and 17 others.

Later, police rescued them and brought the situation by deploying additional police force and sweeping blockades from the road.

UNO Sharif Nazrul Islam was injured critically by brick stone hit and rushed to nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the others injured were also given treatments in hospital.

Officer-in-Charge of Monirampur Thana Mir Rezaul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said, “Police couldn’t manage to arrest anyone related with the incident.”

Dhaka College BCL committee dissolved

Bangladesh Chhatra League central committee dissolved its Dhaka College unit BCL committee on Saturday.

Apart from this, seven BCL leaders, including president and general secretary, of the committee were also expelled for violating discipline of the party.

The disclosure came from a press release of Chhatra League central committee signed by its president and general secretary.

A student was killed and two other sustained bullet injury in Chhatra League infighting at Dhaka College in the capital on Friday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Al Faruk, a final-year student of Zoology Department.

Sources said that supporters of Chhatra League president Sakibul Hasan Swin and general secretary Fuad Hasan Pallab locked into a fierce clash centering a brawl.

At one stage, they blasted cocktails and locked into gunfight, leaving three injured.

One of them succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

BNP calls hartal in Ctg for Sunday

BNP called dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district for Sunday for protesting the arrest of BNP chairperson’s adviser Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin and its organizing secretary Golam Akhber Khandaker.

BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al-Mamun made the announcement after joining the `Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza` (funeral prayers in absentia) on Friday.

The district unit of BNP also will observe the shutdown in protest against case filing against its senior leaders including port city BNP president Amir Kasru Mahmud Chowdhry.

Claiming Halim death due to police torture, office secretary of district BNP Yusuf Badri told banglanews that police arrested Halim on Tuesday during blockade programme and sent him to court after torture.

He fell ill after getting bail on Wednesday and was rushed to Malumghat Christian Hospital where he died on Thursday night.

Rejecting the allegation of torturing Halim, Officer-in-Charge of Chakaria Thana Ranajit Kumar Barua told banglanews, “Why police will torture him? He died in hospital as he was sick.”

Salauddin in-charge of BNP office

BNP’s national executive committee joint secretary general Salauddin Ahmed was made in-charge of the party office after the arrest of office secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

A responsible source of BNP confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Previously, Salauddin Ahmed, also former communications minister, was in-charge of BNP office in absence of Rizvi.

Urge to ease political stalemate UN Chief sends letter to Khaleda

Opposition leader also BNP chairperson received a letter on Friday from United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon which comprised urges to ease ongoing political gridlocks throughout the country.
BNP Chairperson’s foreign affairs advisor Shamsher Mobin Choudhwry confirmed the matter to banglanews. However, he didn’t unveil the issues and directives on the letter. Meanwhile, sources said that UN Secretary General’s letter is containing directions of peaceful way out of the ongoing political crisis over poll-time interim government between ruling and opposition. Rizvi sent to jail, remand hearing Dec 4

A Dhaka court on Saturday sent BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to jail in a case filed in connection with arson attack on a bus that left two dead and 17 burnt on Thursday.
The court also fixed December 4 for remand hearing on the case. Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman passed the order in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, police sought a 10-day remand of BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi for interrogation in connection with arson attack on a bus that left two dead and 17 burnt on Thursday. Inspector (investigation) MA Jalil, of Shahbagh Police Station, submitted a remand plea before a Dhaka court after the BNP leader was arrested. Sohel Rana, a sub-inspector of the police station, filed the case on Friday against top BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Rizvi, for their alleged involvement in instigating an arson attack on a bus at Shahbagh. Detective Branch (DB) of Police s arrested Rizvi at the party Nayapaltan office during a raid early Saturday. The law enforcers also ransacked the party office, assaulted journalists of three private television channels—Samay TV, Ekattor TV and Gazi TV—and vandalized their two cameras. Party sources said BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed will act as the party spokesperson in absence of Rizvi.

72-hr blockade underway 1 killed in Jhenaidah; vandalism

The countrywide 72-hour non-stop blockade, called again by opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance, is underway from 6:00am Saturday to press demand for caretaker government.
The waterways, roads and railways will remain under the blockade programmes from 6.00am Saturday to 6.00am Tuesday. An activist of Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a clash between blockade supporters and police in Kotchandpur upazila of the district on Saturday, the first day of 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance. Blockade supporters set fire to four paddy-laden trucks and a medicine carrying microbus in Dewanpara area of the divisional city early Saturday, hours before the 72-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance. A police constable sustain splinter injuries as blockaders hurled cocktails at a police van in front of Old Chandgaon Thana in the port city at 9:00am Saturday. Police chased the blockaders and held two of them and took them to custody. Earlier, 18-party alliance ended observing 71-hour rail-road-waterway blockade programme at 5:00am Friday amid countrywide incidents of violence. At least 18 people were killed, hundreds others injured, dozens burnt across the country during the blockade. Hundreds of cocktails were exploded by 18-party activists and many vehicles were vandalized and torched at the same time.

JCD attack 2 BCL men killed in Narsingdi District Correspondent

Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were killed in an attack launched by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men in Ghorashal Municipal area on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Anwar Hossain Anu, 26, member of municipal unit BCL and Shamsul Haque Masum, 27, member of Polash thana unit BCL. Witnesses said more than hundred BCL men are staging a rally protesting the 71-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance in front of Sohag Cinema Hall of Ghorashal at around 8:30pm. At one stage, some Chhatra Dal men attacked the rally, leaving seven including Polash thana BCL general secretary Monir Hossain and activists Anu and Masum injured critically. Of them, Anu died on the way to Palash Health Complex while Masum succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Narsingdi BCL general secretary Shamim Newaz confirmed the matter to banglanews. Polash Thana officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid Mondol said on information, police force was sent to spot.

18-party urges President for talks

Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the 18-prty alliance asked President to solve the existing political crisis through dialogue.
The spokesperson for the party came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists after a meeting with President M Abdul Hamid in the evening. Fakhrul also told the journalists that the President assured them to solve the problem as per his jurisdiction according to the constitution. Earlier in the day, the 18-party alliance delegation reached at Bangabhaban to meet President M Abdul Hamid for requesting him to take steps for formation of non-party government to oversee the next polls. The 20-member delegation led by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reached at the residence of the President around 6:15pm. The members of the delegation include BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members RA Gani, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Dr Moyeen Khan, Mirza Abbas ASM Hannan Shah, Nazrul Islam Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury. The other party members include M Shamsul Islam and Hamidur Rahman Azad of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed of LDP, Andalib Rahman Partha of Jatiya Party, Islami Oikya Jote Chairman Abdul Latif Nezami, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and Ibrahim of Kalyan Party. On Monday afternoon, Khaleda Zia sought the appointment of the President.

Fakhrul among 16 sued

Police filed two cases against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam among 16 opposition leaders & activists with Shahbah Thana bringing allegations of murder & instigating arsons.

Top 5 BNP leaders bail denied

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday rejected bail to five top BNP leaders, including Barrister Moudud Ahmed, in two cases filed with Motijheel Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Jahurul Haque passed the order in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the further hearing on bail petition of five top BNP leaders, including Barrister Moudud Ahmed, was held in the two cases.

But, the accused were not produced before the court.

On November 21, the hearing on bail petition of the leaders was held but the court fixed Thursday for further hearing.

Former attorney AJ Mohammad Ali, Supreme Court Lawyers Association general secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Supreme Court Bar Association president Joynul Abedin, Dhaka Bar president Advocate Sanaullah Mia stood for the accused.

On Monday, Dhaka Bar Association president Advocate Sanaullah Mia filed the bail petition for the five BNP leaders with the court.

On November 8, police held the BNP leaders from various spots of the capital.

Ctg North Shibir president among 3 held

CHITTAGONG: The members of law enforcement agency arrested three people, including Chittagong (North) Chhatra Shibir president Kutub Uddin Shibli, for their alleged involvement in sabotage on Dhaka-Chittagong highway recently.

They were picked up from Madambibirhat area of Sitakunda upazila on Thursday around 2:00pm.

RAB-7 ASP Amirul Islam said, acting on a tip-off, law enforcers arrested three people including Shibli.

Man dies as pickets chase in Ctg

A man was killed as his three wheeler turned turtle in College Bazar area under Patia upazila of the district on Wednesday after pickets chased him on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ershad, 25, a three wheeler (Nosimon) driver, son of Taiyab Ahmed. Besides, four people, including a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member and two police men, received bullet injuries in Battola area under Sitakunda upazila of the district. 4 hand bombs blasted in city

Blockade supporters exploded four powerful hand bombs in capital’s green road area on Thursday, the third day of 71-hour blockade called by 18-party alliance. Witnesses said pickets hurled the four bombs aiming vehicles from Rupsa Community Center lane at Green Road at around 9:35am. None was injured in the explosion, but commuters got panicked. On information, patrol police rushed to spot and started searching suspected persons and vehicles.

District 18-party alliance called dawn-to-dusk hartal for Thursday protesting the killing of a Jamaat activist and a Chhatra Dal leader in clashes with cops at Belkuchi upazila on Wednesday. BNP executive committee member Amirul Islam Alim and district Jamaat secretary Shahinul Islam Shahin confirmed the matter to banglanews. DCCs get new administrators

The Ministry of public administration has appointed two administrators for Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) North and South on Tuesday night. As per the ministry directives, Bureau of Non-Formal Education (BNFE) director-general M Alamgir appointed as new administrator for DCC South while additional secretary of agricultural ministry M Anwarul Islam Sikdar as DCC North administrator. Besides, outgoing DCC North administrator Akhter Hossain Bhuiyan appointed as BNFE director-general and DCC South administrator Md. Nazrul Islam shifted to agricultural ministry as additional secretary.

Gazipur blockade violence kills AL leader

An Awami League leader was killed in a clash between Awami League and BNP supporters centering blockade on Wednesday noon. The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain, 40, member of Jamalpur union parishad under Kaliganj upazila of the district. Witness said the supporters of local Awami League and BNP locked into a clash at Dolan Bazar around 12:30pm, leaving Kamal injured critically. He was rushed to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries around 2:30pm. Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Thana Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to banglanews.
