He stated that elections under the Awami League-led
government had been ‘free and fair’.
“No observers came earlier," Muhith
told reporters in Sylhet on Sunday.
"There will be no impact on the
election even if the observers don’t come,” he said reacting to an EU disclosure
that it was considering to send observers during the Jan 5 general
election.
Rather, the minister said polls were "tampered with" during the
BNP-led government.
In a statement on Saturday, the EU's High
Representative on Foreign Affairs, Catherine Ashton, said the Union was "ready
to consider sending election observers" to Bangladesh as it did during the 2008
polls.
But the EU was worried about the "political and security situation
in Bangladesh", the statement said.

Hanna echoed similar concern after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner
Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Sunday.
Muhith came to Sylhet after he was
nominated for the Sylhet-1 constituency.
He is expected to submit his
nomination to the returning officer on Monday.
